TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
Heiko Ulbrich is leaving the country.
Heiko worked at The National Bank in Epsom in customer service and he really had good luck with this job. Who else got Champagne for Christmas and a really cool Cricket Shirt from the Cricket Team NZ?
We were very pleased with him as a flatmate, especially when he decided to buy an X-Box and cooked us Pasta “a la Heiko”. Currently he is traveling the South Island, but when he is coming back from there on the 24th of February we will be happy to have some beers with him the last 2 days he is here and to listen to him when he read out the questions from the beer cap.
Heiko, take care and have a good flight back to Germany!
HI! MY NAME IS….
Kristina Hinz and she came on the 31st of January to start her Internship at the Auckland Grammar School (for boys only!!!). Kristina is from Kiel, and just finished her studies to become a teacher for English and Geography. Kristina lives in the WOXA-House and is playing “room-hopping”, which means she rents the rooms of people who are traveling at the moment, what is good for the people who are on the road, because of saving money, good for her to have a home and good for us to have her. After finishing her Internship in April, she will travel around NZ with a friend who will come from Germany.
Roul Radeke, and he arrived a day after Kristina from Duisburg. Roul is studying Business in Venlo and wants to write his diploma degree during his Internship at Siemens here in Auckland. As you write his name with an OU you speak it Raul and he is not Spanish. Like Kristina he lives in the WOXA House, but he has his own room, where he learned at the age of 25, that ironing clothes on the carpet floor can cause funny marks. Roul is a very good friend of Heineken and they meet each weekend to go out, meeting some Kiwis.
Fanny Dorn, and she arrived on the 6th of February from Ferdinandshof in Eastern Germany. She has finished her studies in Business Administration is working as an Intern for the New Zealand College Of English Language. Fanny lives in the WOXA House, too. She has her own room, doesn’t drink Heineken and it is a lot of fun to go out with here and “discuss” people.
Stefanie is arriving this week and we are looking forward to meet her and see what she is like. Hope you’ll have a good fly.
BACK TO THE ISLAND
2 weeks ago we went to White Island to discover the active volcano island. Hot water and steam continually escape from vents over most of the crater floor. The sea was very rough, although the weather was fine and clear. Partly they wore their gas masks because of the steam like you see in the picture. Take a guess who it is! During the guided tour they learned a lot. The best thing to know was that sulphur - water tastes like Gin, sulphur doesn’t smell and has no taste and that sea sickness is not the best when you go on a trip like that. But it is absolutely worth it to go there. For more information contact the WOXA Team Auckland.
INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN
Holiday on a Friday? Get out of Auckland into nature. Coromandel Penisnula is a godd place for long weekend-trip. Visiting Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and Fletcher’s Bay in the very north of Coromandel, where you have an amazing view from the coast road, but it is very difficult to drive because of gravel and a minimum of space between your car, the cliff and the hills.
If you want more information about backpacker, tours and places on Coromandel, just ask the WOXA Team Auckland
DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY
This week’s tip for going out in the evening is the Khuja Lounge. For live music this is the place to be on Wednesday and Thursday nights. On other nights DJs mix funky beats: reggae, some old smooth soul with jazz and rhythm and blues. This is a crowd-gathering locality, so be prepared for crushed shoulders on the open floor. “Khuja” is Arabian for “melting point” and you will find all types inside, if you can climb the stairs up to the third level, you may find yourself in a smokey heaven, packed to the rooftop. You meet a lot of people there and you can have a lot of fun with new mates for the night.
Khuja Lounge 536 Queen St / cnr K’Road Tel.: 377 3 711
Opening hours: Wed/Thu 8pm –late, Fri/Sat 10pm-late
STAY ON THESE ROADS
The month has two weekends left, which want to be filled. So coming up the next weekend, we want to go to Northland for 2 days and one night. Going up the west coast to have a look at the kauri trees, we plan to make it up to ninety mile beach and coming back on Sunday. So who is interested to come please contact the WOXA Team Auckland for arranging accommodation and renting cars.
Also coming up on the last February weekend, which is in two week we are planning to go for another 2 days one night trip this time to Rotorua. Therefore we need to know who is coming to join us until the end of this week, because of doing reservations for the Maori event on Saturday evening. Planned activities are feasting at Maori hangi and taking in a concert visiting the geothermal areas, easing into thermal spas.
THAT’S ALL FOLKS!
