THE INTERNAL - NEWSLETTER 5/05

HI GUYS!

“Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves.”

(Dale Carnegie)

I wish you a good week at work. Show lots of commitment during the week and get involved with rewarding tasks… Then it will be no problem to ask for leaving early once in a while J

Since our time here is not only about pleasing our internship managers or others, but also about making our own experiences and getting to know the country, let’s follow Hansen’s device:

“Now is the only time there is. Make your now wow, your minutes             miracles, and your days pay. Your life will have been magnificently lived             and invested, and when you die you will have made a difference.”

Enjoy your week and NZ lifestyle!

Cheers, Serina

ULRIKE’S LAST DAYS AT WORK

Time really seems to fly by… Ulrike has been working for already three months and will finish her internship on Friday this week. I hope you enjoyed your time there.

Furthermore, have fun travelling around the South Island for the next 4 weeks. If you have time before flying out, let us know that you are back so that we can meet and have some drinks together!!!

HELLO ISABELL

She will be the first one of the three new interns coming in the end of February.

Isabell arrives Feb 22 and decided to stay with a family. She works for Nuplex Environment for 4 months.

Isabell comes from Oberthal (wherever that might be J) and studies Environmental Planning in Trier. Before she worked as a decorator in Kaiserslautern.

Her email is Schneider_isabell@gmx.de .

WEEKEND IMPRESSIONS

This weekend most of us stayed in Auckland, except for Robert and Monika who went to Waitomo and did the Abseiling – Black Water Rafting – Combo.

Therefore they rent a car, which actually turned out to be really cool… They got a sportive convertible with unusual design, which was just ideal to cruise around and impress others, but – unfortunately – was not waterproof and had extremely bad brakes.

Friday night we went to the Morrison Club in Fort Street, which was not bad but not really good either! Still we had fun and were in bed quite late.

Saturday seemed to be a day to relax… Diana and I went to the Auckland Museum and watched a movie later on, Ulrike did a tour around Auckland to take some pictures, our biker Georg took a trip to any beach up north and Jan lay in bed with a stomach ache… What a day, hey?!

On Sunday there was a couple of us meeting in the domain since there was a something going on that we didn’t really find out. Anyway, it was great… lots of different bands playing and tuns of people sitting there and having a shindig.

A DIFFERENT BIRTHDAY THAN EXPECTED FOR WULF

Have you ever celebrated your birthday waiting at the airport for a plane that is finally able to leave and taking you to the place you wanna be at your birthday? Well, Wulf made such an experience and wasn’t very happy about it….

He was supposed to fly back from Dunedin to Auckland at 9 in the morning and in the end made it in Auckland at 10 in the evening! The whole thing wouldn’t have been that bad if Dunedin had something like a real airport if you know what I mean!

The only thing though, Wulf, that matters is that you had a safe journey!!! If you look at it from this point of view you will agree, I guess! And - not everybody can say to have spent one’s birthday at an airport J

WANNA TRY SOME TONGUE TWISTERS ???

WHAT’S ON IN AND AROUND AUCKLAND

On Saturday there is a Jazz and Blues Streetfest in Mission Bay. It is free and you can listen to New Zealand bands from all over the country. For more information, go to the official website at www.jazzanbluesstreetfest.com

If you are not so much into jazz and want to try something different, then you can get a taste of African sounds at the Africa Street Festival in Howick. It is also free and on Saturday 10am – 4pm.

Although the weather is not the best right now, you can still consider the Open Air Cinema at the Viaduct for your evening plans.

NEXT WEEKEND TO ROTORUA / TAUPO

That is what is going to happen (so far… you know we are pretty good in changing our plans J):

We leave Friday in the afternoon and spend the evening with Mitai according to typical Maori culture with hangi, dancing and lots of traditional celebration. We will stay in Rotorua for the night. On Saturday we will go to the Agrodome (plus Adventure Park???) where we can sheep shearing etc. (sounds like fun, I’d say). In the afternoon we visit Wai-O-Tapu with all its thermal stuff (pools, craters, geyser…just check http://www.geyserland.co.nz/park.htm) Later in the evening we can relax in one of the spa pools in the region, hopefully we will find the cold and hot river running together…

I think we are going to stay in a hostel in Turangi.

On Sunday we will be two groups, one is hiking the Tongariro Crossing and the other one is skydiving in Taupo.

I think we will both have fun with either choice, provided that the weather is good!!!

Looking forward to inhaling the nice sulphur smell again….

See you on Friday at the latest!

That’s it for today!
